What Media Missed in the State of the Union Address
Watching the opening of the address I witnessed the most profound message of the entire evening.Obama entered like an Emperor with elected officials from both sides standing to clap and hail his arrival as though he descended from a cloud in a throng of angels.
It was not always so. In the past members of the opposition party knew full well a President was only an executive head of a separate and equal branch of government, not the Supreme Leader deserving of submissive adoration. They often turned their backs as POTUS entered; they often booed to express dissatisfaction and righteous indignation. Now they all Hail the Messiah as co-equal branches of government, including the Supreme Court Justices all submit to a President elevated far beyond our constitutional definition.
Is it any wonder this man feels no need to respect limits to his legal authority?
Our ancestors fought a Revolution to provide for us a nation where no such figure existed. What we saw last night was the culmination of gradually shifting status resulting from decades of Presidents grabbing increasing power and position they have no right to as those charged with limiting that power stand aside and permit it. Worse yet,,, they willingly contribute to the transfer.
No one in our media is addressing this but I know my fellow Americans, I cannot be the only one who saw it and was troubled by all it implies.
Moving on to the delivery of the speech, more deviation from our roots was displayed. As the cameras panned the room stopping to focus briefly on various members of our Congress I was struck by the thought: There was no one there that I would feel comfortable buying a used car from. The faces wearing posed expressions, the heads nodding for show of support or frozen to display dissent all seemed so much like contrived stage acts when considering the low ratings and lack of confidence their performance on the job has created.
Then we see the wide angle view showing half of the room containing a party jumping to their feet to applaud comments from the Monarch while the other side sat still as if they actually have a spine capable of holding their backs up to enforce the objections they project. Half was in for celebration, half was in for a show of objection and all of it is just for show. At the end of the day the President is still permitted far more power without resistance than our Constitution allows.
I could go on about the lies told, the brief moments of truth, the omissions such as debt piled onto our children or the growing strength of enemies in Afghanistan as our cities and major events are converted to armed camps to protect us from the islam both parties trip over each other to embrace but no. Those are just symptoms of our troubles, our real problem is power gifted to a rogue President by a Congress and Supreme Court who shirk their duty and enable the shift.
From a constitutional standpoint, we saw a full House of Congress in worship of a President they refuse to hold accountable for a series of criminal scandals and outright treason. We saw a Governor hand picked to craft a response that was intended to subvert her own partys frontrunner as much as to counter the flaws in content of the evenings message. While an enemy nation held our sailors days before being gifted by the treasonous Iran nuke deal the carnival atmosphere and submission to the Pharaoh went full steam ahead in our Capital while the crime of treason is still buried from discussion. A man who succeeded in hiding all details of his past by hiring lawyers to lock away everything from his passports, to his college applications and thesis work hailed as an untouchable ruler by those becoming wealthy in the positions designed to hold him to rule of law.
What I saw last night did not reflect any of the basic American principles of government by representatives duty bound to their sworn oaths of office to enforce our Constitution. I saw a Broadway-esque performance of a room full of self-serving politcicians who go along to get along because that is the easiest route to their own personal success. I saw a President with no desire to protect our best interests talking down to, even berating those among us who hold dear to our true values. I saw the results of a citizenry which has allowed two entrenched parties to do as they please regardless of law and I realized why our Founders told us to never allow this to happen.
When Americans decide our State of the Union is no longer acceptable they will walk away from the parties now united in failure. Until we reach that point, all we have is a King and a Congress of people getting fabulously wealthy by treating him like one.
As a Constitutional Patriot, I am dedicated to ending this chapter of errors and restoring representation, integrity and a government that serves the people instead of their own interests. This will begin to happen when enough Americans decide it is time.
What did America see last night?
