What?? A member of Congress resigns after being caught in a scandal?
Katie Hill, U.S. Representative from California’s 25th district announced her resignation due to scandalous sexual revelations that hit global news organizations.
She knew she was a public figure and she knew she was engaged in behavior that could damage her if discovered. So be it. She did it, got outed and has accepted the consequences. But the story doesn’t end there, and it does raise some other issues from the congressional hideaway closets.
First of all, it is illegal to share sexual photos to damage a partner. This has been addressed because a lot of it was happening, lives were being destroyed and some had even committed suicide after being exposed. This is cruel, tacky and shouldn’t happen. But it happened to Rep. Hill and she has a very strong court case for collecting large damage awards from the ex-lover who didn’t think it through. We are going to be seeing a lot more news about her as this gets cleaned up.
The real story that should matter more to all of us is that she resigned. She didn’t say, “I accept all responsibility and will move ahead as a better public servant,” as so many others have done. She fessed up then walked away. By today’s standards, we have to appreciate and respect that. She did the right thing. After all, she was having some pretty frisky consensual sex while smoking pot. She wasn’t diddling interns in the White House or killing potential witnesses whose evidence could result in prison time and total destruction.
I’m surprised Democrats didn’t rally in her defense. Yes, Ms Hill was with a man but she was also involving a woman; that doesn’t qualify for some sort of half-gay Democrat special protection? Maybe she should have opted for an illegal immigrant girlfriend who had brown skin and big sad eyes. Democrats have defended much worse, why not Hill?
Here is the million dollar question EVEYONE should be asking—is the congressional slush fund for buying silence and protecting Congress from sex scandals only for male members of Congress? Let’s not forget somewhere between $15-$21 million dollars of taxpayer money has been used to silence stories of equal nature and we are still not allowed to know who, when, how much or what happened. I still want to know—who are these congressmen, how much taxpayer cash did they use for this, when are they resigning and paying it all back?
I don’t see any “great constitutionalist” members of the phony GOP Freedom Caucus raising any hell about this, do you? Where is Jim Jordan, McCarthy and the other “Fraudem Caucus” blowhards when it matters? I can tell you where, they are in the shadows with Democrats running defense for the swamp rats they share a big bed with. Katie Hill has the spotlight and as a parting gift to her country she should be shouting these questions in front of every camera she can find. She would find herself enjoying redemption from millions of Americans, Democrat and Republican alike.
